You Never Know Whats Just Around The Corner

Not very often do I get to work in Ayrshire so it’s been a great month for me working near to home, but I didn’t realise this shoot was going to be just around the corner from me.

Photo from Lauren's portfolio

Lauren Jamieson is a young and upcoming Glasgow model who was wanting to add new images to her portfolio, she already had the her photographer booked and all she needed was a hairdresser and MUA I asked her if she would mind if I worked with my MUA and she said she already had someone in mind, so things were made much easier when we found out it was the same person Stephanie Kerr of Peaches & Paint . I hadn’t worked with the photographer Tom Cairns before but I had noticed his work, on the website of my favourite wedding accessories designer Corrine Smith, great images showing off Corrine’s designs to the maximum.

I didn’t realise Tommy’s place was just around the corner for me, well may 2 or 3 corners but five minutes from my place, you just never know what's around the corner as the old saying goes.

Lauren was more than happy to leave us to the styling for the shoot with only one look in mind she wanted an all American young preppy look, which is bang on trend and can be found in every high street store. Lauren wanted to go for more fashion looks; I always like to give models something different for their portfolio as that’s what they are looking for different images so they can show their versatility.

Trendy Preppy Ponytail

Why don’t you try this easy style that has a great effect, I had to straighten Lauren’s naturally curly hair for a sleek smooth texture, then putting a little height through the top and pulling & smoothing back into a sleek pony just above the ears and fasten, pulling another pony tail just below to contact up with the first ponytail and the look is done.

Stephanie wanted to go for a natural look with the makeup and suggested to Lauren a big woolly jumper and her hair curly, as Lauren has a young fresh look, I thought I would funk it up a bit with 1970’s retro feel afro frizz, softening it up with the young and fresh looking pink makeup for a natural look.  The jumper is mine and about four sizes too big for Lauren but this was the look we were going  for a big junky knit that was more like a dress than jumper a bargain from Primark at £20 we teamed it up some girl power leopard print wedge ankle boots from Very.co.uk

Again we still haven’t got a loan from any designers we are still on the lookout but we have our eye set on the prize and want to wait for the right one to give us their designs to work with.

For now we have my collection of some clothes and bits and pieces I have picked up which I knew would look good for the final look, I had this look in mind for a while and you can use this style in so many ways, it has a real rock and roll feel!

Lauren is truly wearing a retro shirt from Miss Sixty that I have had for about 20yrs. at least maybe longer? I love this shirt it’s a forever in style military shirt with badges and embroidery a totaly unique shirt from Miss Sixty, leopard print top to team up with the wedges again and Lauren own shorts giving a very wearable young funky look.

I always research for all my shoots, I like to turn up knowing what everyone's vision is so we can all work together in achieving the look, this is why I Loved working on the styling and so want to do more of it, if I had more tools just think of the looks me and Stephanie could come up with… Come on designer let me have your stuff lol

I work better under pressure and there is a lot to do and remember on the day of the shoot, hard work, I collected Lauren off the train at 9:30am and didn’t drop her off at the train station until 8:30pm a long day but they always go in so quickly, a great enjoyable day, a big thank you to Tommy for feeding us all day and getting us in some cakes….. mmmm…. It’s a running theme on my shoots ‘CAKES’

My favourite image of the day this style is been in my head for a while it’s so good to see it come to light and it’s just perfect for Lauren.
